Memoir of a Worrior

On this date 11th July 1972 at 1800hrs, 37 years ago l received an order by Captain Maulud Maamin (Lt General) who was than Military Intelligent Officer Sarawak to report to him at 0800hrs on 12th July 1972. l have no choice but to leave Lundu immediately the same night. l packed all my belongings and took my Land Rover drove straight to catch the last ferry across Lundu river at 1900hrs.

l arrived Kuching at about 2330hrs and l stayed at the 3rd Bde Officer Mess, Jalan Badrudin. l could not sleep that night thinking what orders or instructions l am getting from him. l tried getting the informations by going to his room but unfortunately he was not in. l tried getting in contact his assistant Lt Samaon Ahmad he was not in too. l have no choice but to sleep it out that night.

Commissioning Day

12 April 1969 was the most memorable day for Regular Intake 11. This was the day we the army cadets were commissioned, after 2 years as cadet at the Royal Military College in Sungai Besi. From this date we were now known as an officer in the Malaysian Armed Forces. Out of the 32 newly commissioned officer few has left us for good.

Al-Fatihah to the followings:-

2 Lt Razak Husin Killed during a contact with the communist terrorist in Sarawak.

Capt Ismail Saud. Killed in a helicopter air crash in Genting Highlands

Capt Mustaffa Kamal. Killed when his helicopter was shot down by communist terrorist in Gubir Kedah.

Major Zaini. Died of heart attack.

We also lost a few of our Squad:-

Capt Jayahany. Died of Lukeimea.

Capt Paul Anthony Corray. Died of heart attack.

A few of us were awarded bravery awards:

2 Lt Razak Husin - Seri Pahlawan Gagah Berani.

Lt Col Robert Madang a/k Langgi - Panglima Gagah Berani.

Major Salehuddin Abd Muttalib - Panglima Gagah Berani

Those who were made Generals:-

General Azumi Muhamad. Deputy Army Chief.

Lt General Khairuddin Mohd Yusoff. Panglima Medan.

Brig General Muslim Yusoff

Brig General Nik Moh Zaaba.

After all these years we have bump into each other and only once we were able to have a grand reunion and down the memory lanes. l really hope we could meet each other more often. we do not really have much time left. as you all my squad fully aware we are all on 'standby'.
